Is the 360 Hard Drive Region Free?

    Hey,
Can anybody answer this question for me:

Will my Xbox 360 Hard Drive from an American NTSC console work on a UK 360 core system?

If so will my Live account (set up in the USA), my saved games and downloaded content also work?

(I understand about region coded games etc. But microsoft wouldn't directly answer this question for me)

    Any help is much appreciated!

The HDD is region free (I have both PAL and NTSC-J machines and switch the HDD between them with no problems).

Not sure how your Live membership will be affected if it's an American account. Should be okay if you're connected to Live. You may just have to give it a whirl.

The american account should work fine for normal XBL play, but the video marketplace is region locked. At least that's how it was six months ago. Unless they've changed, you should be good.

        Spot on.

XBLA games etc. will all still work too as long as the US account is logged in to Live.

However, if you have bought any original Xbox games (Pyschonauts, Halo etc.) from the US marketplace they will not work on a PAL 360....MS have retained the original region coding for some reason.

Thanks guys, thats a lot of help.

          One more question...

If the marketplace is region locked thats means I can't download new content onto an NTSC HDD when i'm back in the UK then. Can I continue to use previously donwloaded content which is XBLA
e.g. will the COD4 map pack work do you think

(wish MS tech support were half this helpful lol)

Yeah, you can, but you need to be connected to LIVE to use it.
