sharing media from my pc to xbox 360 - problem

    Hello

My copy of windows media player 11 is not seeing my 360 when i try to setup media sharing. I realise it could be one of a thousand things but thought I'd post in case there is an obvious trick. Im planning on playing around with it this weekend so any advice appreciated.

The xbox is wired to a thomson speedtouch router

the pc connects wirelessly via an apple airport express plugged into the thomson router

both pc and xbox are happily connected to internet/live but just can't see each other.

    any tips?

let me know if you need any more info and I will provide

In the share tab on the pc - check the 360 is allowed.
Failing that just reinstall wmp 11

I'd try making sure that universal plug and play is turned on in your router and that your firewall on your PC is turned off (at least until you get it working)

Had the same problem and nothing would work until I reinstalled WMP11. It can be a funny bugger sometimes.

If you still can't get it to work, try installing Zune and sharing in that instead. If that doesn't work, then at least you know it's a setting (somewhere) problem rather than WMP11 being a bitch. I use Zune anyway most of the time (it won't do mpg files though, but I do all my stuff in h.264 mp4 now anyway so that's not a prob for me).

Thanks for that, that's a good idea. Also downloaded tversity to try that. I kinda figured it was something to do with the wireless pc talking to the wired xbox.

The Zune software has the same backbone as WMP 11. (WMC2)
                For WMP11 follow this
                Switch on the 360
                Start WMP11 on your pc
in the little arrow under the library tab click media sharing
tick the share my media box, your 360 should be in the little window, then just click on allow. Windows will sort out the firewall rules for you.
And you should be good to go. If not just remove WMP11 and reinstall it and follow the set up instructions to share you media in the set up.
                Have fun.

Oh ok sorry - is there a firewall running on your router?

I think that could be the problem, have you tried plugging the pc direct into the router?

yeah, its gotta be what's going wrong but my pc is upstairs/router downstairs and don't want long trailing cable. Surely its gotta be possible, maybe just need to tweak the airport access point settings...
