    Replacement 360 advice

Right, got a bit of a strange question, I brought a 2nd hand 360 off the forum, and its died, obviously im not that fussed with the seller, as he didnt guarantee it would last for ages! So i ring microsoft, and they kindly tell me that their 3 year warranty doesn't cover preowned machines!!

    So what are my options?

Im not willing to pay microsoft 65 quid to replace it?

The only 2 ideas i can think of are....

Buy a 2nd hand one and do the old switcharoo

    and

Chuck it! lol (or possibly mod it!)

any other ideas? Or advice in doing a switcharoo?

How do they know the machine is second hand?

I'm sure I've heard a few people talking about sending back second hand machines to MS in the 360 issues thread. They need to have the ownership of the machine (the registration MS has on their service computers) transferred into their name.

I've never had to do this myself, but I'd keep on at MS until they give way. I once had to make multiple phone calls to them when they owed me money for a damaged game disk. They do give in eventually.

Also, do try and contact the seller if you can. They might be able to provide you with more information or possibly a store receipt.

Ive contacted the seller, hes trying to source a receipt, i spoke to microsoft last night for over 2 hours, spoke to several members of staff at various levels, and they would not budge!! because the machine is my second console, and i stupidly said i brought it 2nd hand! they basically said "go away" we wont cover you! i was not impressed, tried arguing my point on several occasions but they didnt help!!! Cheers tho.

If you can get the reciept take it back to the shop your covered under durability for up to 5yrs and contract is with them not MS. THIS IS YOUR BEST METHOD and doesnt matter about 2nd hand (and dont mention that again lol). If he hasnt got the reciept but can prove where he bought it from take it back their (you dont need a reciept).

If not contact MS dont mention its 2nd hand and go thru the motions with em, tell em if they dont fix it you will contact trading standards and your credit card company under 1970s credit act and see what they do. If they wont budge ask for their name and ask to speak to a surpervisior and do the same, tell em its not fit for purpose and not durable for the amount of money it costs and if they dont accept it you will have no option to contact TS and if need be small claims court against them. Then at end of it put it all in writing and contact your nearest trading standards office and get a reference number.

RROD has nothing to do with nothing, goods have to last a reasonable length of time and 5yrs for a £300 piece of equipement is the acceptable length. Only costs £30 to take em to court over it anyway so got nowt to loose And yes Ive been their and done that Ive had 3 and Game caved when MS would do nowt after also telling me to get stuffed so trading standads and credit card company put frightners on em (credit card company can resind it or be sued also under credit act).

No idea, it said that there was an error processing my console and to ring customer services, pretty sure after the rant i had last night, they might have blocked my serial number! lol

have you registered the console to yourself? i haven't actually tried a warranty online but most of my 360-owning mates have and have not had any problems with second-hand machines provided they hadn't already been registered (which would give a failure when trying to register online), so maybe that's the problem?

i'm pretty sure when the extended warranty was announced, it included second-hand machines. a mate of mine wrote a long email when they wouldn't take in his 360, citing that reference and then they finally agreed.
