    GC making horrible noises

    Hi all,

My Gamecube is making these horrible load clicking noises, like the disk is almost being ejected off the player, at random points in some games. It has happened in Madden 2003 (and crashed the game), Zelda WW (and crashed the game) and finally in Skies of Arcadia, but only in the random battles. I've had to stop using it because it is worrying me that it might be wrecking the disks.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix it?

    Thanks

    Mine does this too.
The other day i tried to load ZeldTWW for the first time but it just wouldn't have it and kept going into the GC dash board like there was no game in the machine at all
My GC also crashed a couple of times when playing Metroid Prime.

This isn't a big problem for me tbh because it hardley ever happens but maybe others have a more severe case of this

Yup mine does this as well. Some games worse than others. I think Metroid Prime is the worst when you are dashing about the place going thru doors, it has to do a whole lot of fast loading which inevitably means the laser heads are zipping about from one part of the disc to another - causing the clicking.

It has crashed my Metroid once - after a big mission to collect a poxy missile upgrade as well!!!

That's the price you have to pay for fast loading times however!

I saw some Star Wars KOTOR videos yesterday - and I know sweet FA about this game - and I was shocked at the loading screens popping up all over the place.

Happens on my US one only during Metroid Prime. I would here a few clicks and then it would come up with an error screen. It only seemed to happen in the early stages of the game though.

          All other games are fine.

My Cube does this sometimes with Winning Eleven 6:FE. It came up with an error message, but all I could make out was "OFF" as the rest was Japanese.

            Edit: sloppy grammar

Mine started doing this for the first time last night with Metroid Prime, right after I had read this thread...

or maybe it's been doing it for ages and I just haven't been paying it enough attention

                Yep,

Metroid made my cube produce horribly expensive sounding noises. More loud CLUNKs that clicks though.

Another good reason not to play Metroid Prime. It can't be good for the machine.

                  idem here.
While playing Metroid Prime, my cube makes loud clicking sounds.
Sometimes it goes crazy, and then the game crashes when I enter a door (and the cube has to load the next room).

                  This only happens with MP...

The only to stop this happening is not to sprint around the levels, then it can load niiiiiiiice and slooooow.

My machine just started this as I was getting good at master on f-zero gx. Suffice to say I'm pissed off... especially as I take great care of all my machines. I certainly won't be replacing it.

It occurs on mine as well. Only games i`ve heard it do it on is resident evil 0, metroid prime and f zero gx which constantly does it and have had a disc read error about 4 times upto yet. Other games i have play fine though.

I've only had my machine lock up twice and both times was playing Skies of Arcadia Legends. I think the read head got confused trying to load magic attack animations in during battle and got its knickers in a twist. Fortunately I'd only just saved both times, so I didn't lose much progress...

Well... I've noticed that I get about 20 minutes playtime out of F-Zero or Star Soldier before it gives me some Japanese error saying something about a disc reading problem.

If I open the lid then close it again it'll load up and play when where the error occurs but ones it happens it just keeps happening.

Later when I've calmed down about it I'll open mine up and take a can of compressed air to it. It's possible that layers of dust have made a mess of it... If that doesn't help I'll have to consult someone a little more knowledgable.
