    360 problem.. a blue tinge

I was playing a game yesterday, and after i came out the pause menu all the black (dark dark blacks) came out blue, the game still played thou.

I exited back to the dash, adn the blues were still in the blacks and the picture was a bit wobbly and looked like interference over it too.

turned off and on, (reseted video cable) and all seems ok.. watched a film (xvid) and after 30mins it started to look like it missed a few frames (jerky).. so watch a HD wmv 45 tv show and that worked fine ..

Use components to panny HD tv.. anyone else seen this sort of thing.

Have you got a spare AV lead you can test with - could be the lead. Also try cleaning te leads 360 side conacts, and try 'wiggling' the lead slightly when the 360s on - it could just be a 'bad fit'. Also try this at the telly end (the 5 plugs), one of them may have a cracked wire.

Sounds like your GPU was overheating. It might be just one of those things, as it does happen from time to time, but if it begins happening regularly then your machine is on its way out. The same thing happened to my first machine before it died.

This just happened to mine over the weekend, turned it off and left it for a while. Turned it back on again and it was fine.

Well the 360 is on a wooden floor, standing up right near a door (draft) so hopefully its not overheating (nothing blocking the back for about 1ft. I only play it max 1-3 hours every other day..

but hey.. i will just get another one if it dies.

You'd think that but this is the 360 we're talking about

The actual cause of the sparklies is the video RAM getting corrupted, normally because it's overheating. You get the same on a PC graphics board when it's about to die and some unlucky people have even had it happen to their Wii. Like I said it's probably just 'one of those things' and should be alright.

Generally, if me above tips don't work it will either be the GPU or the scaler chip (located near the av port out).

Its not just as simple as overheating - lead free solder is used on the mobo, and sadly this isn't as effective as leaded solder. The joints break on the ram, GPU/CPU and scaler chips dependant on where the weakest link is (normally GPU due to x-clamps). This is usually made worse by the heat produced by the 360, heat that would normally not cause any probs, but due to the already fundamentally flawed soldering causes errors. MS could improve things with a slightly better airflow system over the GPU and x-clamp modification, but the sad news is the solders crap
