Wii Fit = Noisy Wii? Edit - fixed it now :)

I had a nice quiet Wii, the last game I played on it was No More Heroes and everything was normal. Stopped playing it a few weeks ago and the Wii has been switched off and Connect24 is disabled.

Came home last friday with Wii Fit, popped it in the Wii, did the firmware update and now my Wii is really noisy, a loud buzzing/vibrating noise. And it does it no matter what game is inserted now.

Has this happened to anyone on here? Any idea if it's a horrible co-incidence? or is it a side affect of the firmware update?

I googled it and found someone with the same problem since Wii Fit but no answers yet - http://www.officialnintendomagazine....3efc9f8ecc0504

    Any help or advice??

Mine started doing the same after the Super Mario Galaxy firmware update (I have an NTSC machine though). I guess they changed the way the disc drive works or something. My guess is they have the disp spin continuously now to speed up loading times or some such.

Maybe it is as you say spinning at full speed all the time? I just tried Wii Fit yesterday (I've had the Japanese one since launch and played it on my Jap Wii back then but I can't remember the drive noise, yesterday I played the UK one).

I've got a Wiikey in my UK Wii, and in its options you can choose whether discs are spun at 3x (quiet) or 6x (loud).

I could try and see if setting it to 3x would override it, then we'd know exactly what's going on...

        Fixed it!

EDIT - ooops, don't know why my first link got edited, thought it was strange that it had postings by people who recognise from here a while back. Mods - sorry if I've done something wrong. End of EDIT

I like taking thing apart, but my Wii is still a virgin, and after finding this on the web last night - http://www.**********.com/discussion/wii-drive-noise I thought I would have a go at it.

That didn't work though I found another page which had a bit of a bodge job on it - http://mark.denovich.com/2008/01/26/...e-noise-fixed/ I applied slight pressure to the spot he mentioned and it was still noisy.

I then decided to remove the drive and have a look underneath it, I saw 3 T6 screws around where the spindle is so with the drive removed, placed upside down but still connected up to the console I decided to have a go at tweaking each one of these screws whilst it was switched on a spinning a disc.

SUCCESS! See the photo attached, I've professionally marked which screws I tried, and put a star next to the one that sorted it for me.

Hopefully this'll help someone else now.

I think *think* that I have this same problem. I've had it since I got the Wii (September 07) and it happens on any game, but only intermitently.

I also found that link you posted, and it recommended turning the Wii on with the game disc already inserted. Since doing that, I haven't had any problems with the buzzing Wii drive noise. I used to always eject discs after playing; now I leave them in the drive.

If this method is a cure, then the noise must be caused by the insertion process. I might open up my Wii in the future if it starts happening again, but I'd rather avoid doing so for obvious reasons.

Good point about having a game inserted, I forgot that I read and tried that - although for me it didn't work, I had very bad noise constantly since last week.

I was suprised to not see any security seals on/in the Wii, carefully taking it apart wouldn't even leave any marks on it
