Xbox won't switch on anymore

I once had a to order a universal PSU for a customer from Lik-Sang (ah, good ol' days), it had an old an a new type connector attached, also a 110 and 220 Volts switch. Didn't work though, so I had to send it back....

Regarding the unlocking of an original HD, it can be done. I unlocked a lot of them with some software (the 8 GB Western Digital and the 10 GB Seagate rubber version, not the slimline version IIRC). You'll have to put the soft on a floppy, connect HD through IDE cable as master and then boot PC from floppy.

is it a proper unlocking program, or is it atapwd? some unlocking solutions i've found erase the drive during the unlock.

once darkstorm gets a psu he'll know if his motherboard/hdd still work or not...

Runs in DOS and yes, fully formats the drive. One is specific for Seagate drives, and the other is the one you mentioned, I think that one can also unlock laptop hard drives.

However I just wnated to ask is dismantling thexbox to repalce the psu a simple task? Just I heard with the Ps2 you could damage the disc drive as there was a wire that snapped if you removed the cover and was worried about the xbox being similar

xbox is a piece of cake.

you remove the six screws on the underside of the case and just yank the top lid off. once inside, you unscrew the hard drive (one single screw).

once you've done that, you'll see the psu on the right. it has two screws - one near the figure-8 bit, the other is at the front end of it.

once you've removed those screws, slide the psu about 5mm or so towards the front of the xbox (it has little catches) and it'll just lift away.

swap it out, close it all up and bob's your uncle

best is to use a torx 20 for the 6 case screws and a torx 15 for the psu (or was it 10?)

psu is tx10. you only need tx15 to remove the hard drive from its black casing (to swap it, say)

Just an update to say the PSu was the problem, replaced it and it works fine (though I did have a problem finding somewhere to shove the extra other mdoel Xbox connectors)

The lid didnt quit fit on completely but the gap at the front is tiny enough and I ended up sliding the 1.6 mdoel conenction underneath the dvd drive cradle, I'm asssuming that's not going to cause problems?

it should be ok, as the metal bits on it don't poke out. if it were me, i'd probably cover it with paper/card and electric tape just to be sure, as the wires for it are pretty strong and will want to return to their original shape if they've been bent differently. excessive movement would be the only thing to steer clear of, so as long as the xbox doesn't move around too much you should be fine.
