xb live - modem advice needed

Hi. Sometime today the broadband at my new gaff should be turned on - I have waiting a wireless modem and appropriate parts to hook my xb to the line.
Now, my question is this - my brother ordered me the parts needed but mentioned that I needed to configure the modem and reciever unit (sorry - don't know the names !!!) - does this configuration need to be done on a pc or can I get home and plug this stuff into the xb and the phone line and configure from there ???

Does this make any sense ???

Every one I've heard of needs to be configured by a PC.
