It's fine. By upscaling in the DVD player then the sets internal scaler is not used.

Thanks again for the replies so far. I think I've narrowed it down to three sets... The rest of the decision process will have to take place in the shop heh.
A quick question for the Samsung M86 owners though : I understand that the internal scaler of this television is bad, or at least that it does a bad job at upscaling RGB over scart. Now I wonder - this is a 1080 p screen, right? Now isn't the scaler also responsible for the way the screen decides how to show 480 p, 525 p, 720 p. feeds etc.? How's that work? If I remember correctly, 720p is more or less the standard for current HD gaming. Will I not incure quality loss if I can not feed this television a proper 1080p signal?

I wonder if the scaling is that bad, or if it's just not very good at decoding RGB over SCART. You're right, scaling 720p to 1080p does incur a very, very slight quality hit, but I don't think you'll notice it.
Remember that as I said, "720p" TVs are almost always 1366x768 (768p) - so they're scaling anyway! So, from that point of view, there's no reason to avoid 1080p.
