    US PS3 Noob questions

My sister is bringing me a PS3 back from the US, so I just have a couple of quick noobish questions please.

As I understand it, the vast majority of games are region free, but the Blu-Ray player is locked to region A (or 1). Is that correct?

Also, this means that my UK DVD's won't play on the US PS3?

And finally, where's the best place to buy region A Blu-Rays?

Sorry for the dumb questions, but I just want to make sure that I know what I'm doing. Thanks.

You are correct.. also US PS3 will only play US PS2 games and some games are content and server locked.

The best place to but US gear is Movietyme

Just one more question, can I use my power lead from my UK PS2?

No, its not the same type. The PS3 has a "kettle"-style connector.

Do you know where I could get one of those? I suppose I could just steal the one from the kettle, but I don't think that would go down too well.

New US PS3's aren't backwardly compatible at all.

Can you just plug a US machine into the wall without a stepdown?

Oh and one more thing - make sure your TV is HDCP compatible. Mine ain't so if I'm going to play MGS4 this summer (and I am), I'm going to have to buy a new bloody TV as well.

                      What's this now? HDCP? I've got a 32" Panasonic TX-32LM70.

Hi-Definition Copy Protection? If your TV doesn't do it then you'll just have a monochrome display.

Oh I thought you meant MGS4 was gonna have some special encoding built into it or sommat. That only applies to a HDMI connection anyway. Just use component otherwise.

How do I find out if my TV has HDCP? Or do I just have to wait and see?

                              Why is everything so complicated
