Best way to play jap ps2 games

Okay this will no doubt appear noobish but i was wondering what would be the best way i could play jap ps2 games as i ve only just got round to importing (shame!!)

Basicaly i ve got a pal ps2 and dont feel like shelling out for a jap ps2 and was wondering would swap magic be sufficient or would the games run at 50hz with borders?

Swap Magic will play the vast majority of US/ Japanese imports fine (there are a very small number that are incompatible however).

The games will run exactly as they would on a Japanese PS2 (60hz). I think v3.6 is still the latest version....make sure you get a set of PAL discs though.

The other option would be to fit a mod chip but this would probably work out considerably more expensive by the time you factored in the cost of the chip, paying someone to fit it for you & sending off your console.

I'd go for a soft-mod. Ya have to pay for a hard drive (unless ya got an old one kicking around) and network adapter and there's a bit of messin around with *.elfs but once its set up ya sorted.
Plus it'll considerably cut on loading times of most games. There's plenty of tut's in the "regular places" as they say.
Sorry i can't remember to many details its been time since my ps2 was soft modded. I'm sure peeps on here will have much info.

what about that memor32 card or whatever its called. Doesnt that play imports?

One other thing does the slimline play cdrs and dvd rs out the box because i bought mine pre owned in sept 2006 and it plays the afore mentioned with ease

I'd recommend swap magic boot discs, cheap and totally reliable in my experience.
