Wii WLAN - poor internet speed!?

someone else experiencing very poor speed - for instance with the new Nintendo channel? my Wii takes up to 30 sec to stream 5 sec of video footage which isn't even full resolution, resulting in frequent and annoying stops during playback for streaming data. my router is set to 802.11g+b and the Wii MTU is set to 0 as default - no idea if changing this value does anything.

suggestions are highly recommended!

Mine does the same via the wired adapter, tested the wireless - same result.
Was fine the other day. Think its luck of the draw to bo honest mate.

The Wii internet service is notoriously slow. I guess given the huge success of the Wii and VC, Nintendo will invest in some decent servers in the future. XBL is still streaks ahead, atm.

I haven't used it recently but I used to get similar things on the shop and the Metroid Prime 3 preview channel, especially when new releases came out and everyone was on there trying to download stuff.

thanks for the feedback. i take it it's a common problem. but can a service like the new Nintendo channel be so slow to not even being able to stream a 320x200 pixel size video without interruptions? that's ridiculous!

Set your MTU to 1500 , also turn off any kind of wireless turbo style functions your router may have, it really helped my Wii

ok, have set MTU to 1500, even though i guess it wont change anything as "0" very likely stands for unlimited transfer speed.

Lots of routers have silly "performance enhancing" features that either attempt to boost the speed or the range of the wireless, often labled as SUPER-G or G-Turbo MAX extreme G, uber G etc etc
If you post the model of your router I can tell you what to look for

0 is often the default for the router which should really be around about 1500, but you never know!

This might be a totally pointless excercise, but I did notice a DRAMATIC improvement in the quality of online Wii games when I turned the turbo things off on my high end router (i.e. it went from unplayable to perfect) downloads didn't seem to take as long either.
