Problem playing St Trinians Blu-Ray on PS3 with 16:10 Monitor

My 24" Dell Monitor will only play up to 1080i and being a PC monitor is 16:10 aspect ratio.

I started to play the "St Trinians" Blu-Ray and the menu screen comes up fine (720p I presume, with black lines top and bottom to give the correct aspect ratio). I start the film and it does not play in 720p. The picture fills the screen top to bottom and is standard 4:3 (black borders either side) as far as the width is concerned so I assume it is 576p or whatever. Does anyone know if this movie is actually held on the disk in 720p format or is it just 1080p. I did try 1080i but had the same result. I have had no problems with any other Blu-Ray on my PS3 playing at 720p.

Needless to say I am less than impressed at the moment. If I could contact Entertainment in Video (they release it) I would, but I can find no way to contact them as there is inevitably no contct information on the Blu-Ray case and I can find no immediate reference to them on the Internet.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Could be using the image constraint token (ICT). Is your monitor HDCP compliant? If it is - it shouldn't be the ICT, but if it isn't this allows for the image to be downscaled to SD resolution for non-HDCP monitors. The ICT is optional on Blu-Ray and I don't think there are many titles that use it, which may be why you haven't seen it before.

Thanks. The monitor does not have HDCP. THis could be a problem with any future Blu-Ray purchase then. Being non-HDCP meant I couldn't use an HDMI-DVI converter so I had to use Component. I presume there is no way around this?

You might want to find some software that remove HDMI coding protection. Not sure how good it is.

There are boxes available that take an HDMI input that has HDCP and output DVI/Component/HDMI etc. with the HDCP removed. Last time I looked they were fairly expensive though.

Yep, I.C.T. is the problem here, I believe EIV are the only people actually using it. You can buy a "naughty box" but the price is around 80 pounds if I remember rightly.

You may also want to call them and remind them that this behaviour is cock-like but I think they keep their contact details hidden from view.

I wish I'd known about it before buying the movie. I have friends with "proper" HD TV's so I ought to be able to see it properly at some point.

I can't even import this film as there is no region A version of this film. Is it any good.
