I'm only guessing, but the PS3 is very strict about files being 'spec'. Using H.264 in an AVI container is breaking spec for a start! But it's also quite picky about bitrate and encoding methods.

If you use a recent build of MeGUI to encode to .mkv the PS3/360 profile is now compliant with the specs. This was a problem in the past as mkv encodes often failed to play with hardware acceleration on a PC.

Haali splitter killed all my settings. Wish I'd never tried it. I use coreAVC though which is fine for what I need it for. Tried ffdshow too and it's a bloated mess which conflicts with other stuff I have. I've now given up and just re-encode everything (videora) as mp4/h264 and watch it on the 360.
