Replacement Macbook Charger (from Hong Kong)

My Macbook charger is on the blink, an internal cable is damaged I think, from eithe rmelting cause it gets so hot, or from the tension put on it when pulling it out against the magnetic force.

So anyway, I don't want to shell out ?60 for a new Apple one when I can get one from HK for ?30.

Should I go with a Hong Kong charger, or will it melt and blow up?

    Thanks

For future information I take mine out by pushing down on the connector and it just falls away. No pressure applied to any weak parts by doing it that way mate.

Same here, normally, but there must have been the odd few where I have yanked it out and tossed it in the draw

Nice one, was it out of warranty by much?

I did read (somewhere) that they were changing older powerbook PSU FOC for a similar fault

Out of warrenty by about a year plus. They didn't have a problem swapping it. The man on the phone said he would send me a new updated version. Long story short, since I didn;t have a credit card to ensure I would sent the old one back I went to Apple Store instead and got an (original) one.

I'm in a similar predicament, in that my official macbook charger is dead, but my warranty has run out. There's no way I'm paying ?58 for another apple one, will the cheaper HK ones be safe or do I risk knackering the macbook?

To be honest, I don't see much wrong with getting a HK power adaptor. There's not a huge amount of complexity to a DC Power supply and even if they were questionable, the batteries themselves have protection circuits
