    new seeking adive

    hello
iv never owned a ntsc console and im as i was thinking of collecting some old consoles to replay some games i used to love im thinking why not get a ntsc machine, im after a playstaion 1 and 2 to start off with and maby a dreamcast but iv read most pal dc games have the option to run 60hz anyway so im not sure about that yet.

is the diffrence with 60hz really that noticabe speed wise i can understand the black borders but its the speed im more intreted in. i can pic up pal ps1 and games quite easily on ebay but ntsc ones are hard to get hold of this is why im wondering will getting a ntsc machine be worth the hassele of finding the games. i especialy want to play the orginal ridge racers and gran turismo on the ps1 so driving games should benifit from 60hz?

also wheres the best place to obtain a ntsc ps1 and 2 and the games is their any companys that import?

    thanks

    Hello and welcome
There is a big difference between ntsc and pal games, once you go ntsc you'll never go back to pal. Games and console are easy to pick up, try a worldwide ebay search, from what you've said, id say an american ps2 would be your best bet. Be sure to check the ntsc-uk import faq on the main site for all your importing ins and outs. Good luck!

An NTSC PS2 is gonna be able to play all NYSC PS1 games anyway, so that solves your problem easily

As has been said, a US PS2 would be the best option as then you can play both PS1 and PS2 games. If you're concerned about the possibility of not finding US PS1 games, you could get a chipped machine (hard to find someone to fit these days). One of our forumites - chaoticjelly - does a lot of mods, don't know if he does Playstation.

You can keep an eye out in the trading forums (when you get access), people offer very generous prices.

RE: Dreamcast - it is possible now to mod the Dreamcast to be multi-region, so you can play all you games, NTSC-U/J or PAL. There was a thread (I think it was in this Console Section) some months ago...

well iv bid on an ntsc ps2 slim on ebay with a few ps2 games hopefully i will win so then ill only have the games to worry about. im sure i read somewhere before the slim ps2 dosent need a step down convert is this true? may be imagining things although the ebay one comes with the converter i just thought it was strange as i could swear i read the slim dosent need it.

As for the dreamcast modding it to play all regions sounds very cool ill have a look for that thread.

basicaly iv got 250 - 270 to spend on gaming dont currently own any console, dont want a 360 because the red ring and cant justifiy paying 300 + for the ps3 as rite now there isnt manny titles on it that appeal to me.so im thinking ps2 ntsc bunch of games and a dream cast and a bunch of games im hoping 250-270 will go quite far. any other recomendations on what to spend the money on would be gr8
