Jap/US Garou/Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves+Guilty Gear DC Q

    Just a couple of questions.
Why does everyone here seem to own Japanese versions of Garou when the American counterpart seems to be readily available? is the US version cut or inferior in some way?

Also regarding Guilty Gear X, it was released in the US right? did it ever make it out here? Does anyone know where I can get a US version? If not I'll just get a Japanese version, $39 delivered isnt so bad

    Ta,

    Geezer

I don't think Guilty Gear X was released outside of Japan(i may be wrong but i've never seen a US copy)
As for Mark of the Wolves i got the Jap version just because in my eyes owning the Japanese version just seems a purer gaming experience and Jap versions are either exclusive or released first.
If certain genre get a US translation especially 2d fighters they always seem to get naff artwork etc on the covers so i will always go for the Jap version of any beatem-up.
A stupid reason i know but thats just the way i've always done it and i ain't changing now

Yes, GGX got a US release, at least according to GameFAQs it does (and they are usually right).

I don't know the US version of "Fatal Fury": Mark of the Wolves at all, but I guess that, for games with no Japanese options screens, most people see the Jpn version as more desirable (in the same way that the original release is more desirable than the Playmore re-release). This is from a collector's point of view, though, and nothing else.

I don't think there are any nameswaps in the US version. When I play my Neo Geo version in either Japanese or US mode, there are no nameswaps.

Hmm, the GamesFAQs entry for the US release is a vague '2001', so it's probably wrong.

The artwork for US Garou and Jpn Garou is identical. The only difference is the name change to Fatal Fury: MotW (and inserts as well, of course).

The thing I hate about the US version of MOTW is the stupid way they changed some of the names.

          For example:

          (Japan)Marco Rodrigues - (USA)Butt
          (Japan)The Griffon - (USA)Tizoc

I prefer the Japanese character names -WTF is the point of re-naming a character "Butt"?!?!

Weird - I remember the Tizoc nameswap now, but not the Butt one on the Neo version. I'll have a look tonight

Guilty Gear X only had a US release on the PS2.

A perfect example, the name changes that always seem to happen with 2d fighters, Marco Rodrigues is a good character name, butt however speakes for itself (shocking)

Thanks to all for the info guys, Gamefaqs is where I saw that Guilty Gear had a USA release but I guess not
Guilty gear can be had for $39 new delivered from tronix and I could combine that order at tronix with cosmic smash($30) but I dont know if thats a worthy purchase yet. They've got SSFIIX for matcing service for $49 which is pretty damn good, but I'm finding it hard to justify that money for such an old game, when tbh I enjoy Alpha 2/3 and 3rd strike more. Decisions, decisions...

I'll probably get the US version of Mark of the Wolvers as I've seen it going for between ?16 and ?25 inc del to the UK new and sealed on eBay

\athough those name chages are ****e ft:

Jap games usually have red blood whereas the US a Pal versions have "sweat".

Not saying that Garou was released on Pal just how this is the general attitude towards certain games.

                      Box artwork is totally different.

If you are running a US or JAP version of Garou on a PAL DC be sure to get a DCX bootdisk. As the game will only run at 50Hz, even if your DC has a modchip. The DCX will boot it in 60Hz.
This also applies to some KOF games (2001 & 2002 I think) and Street Fighter 3 - 3rd Strike, there may be more but I can't remember right now.

                        I appreciate your brevity

I must be remembering incorrectly then, as I remember the artwork with Terry and Rock loking down into the 'camera'. What is the US boxart then?
