The first batch of N64?s worked with s-video but the picture was all washed out. Don?t have a clue about the SNES.

Only the first (black) PAL N64's seem to support S-Video, all the laters ones (such as the coloured ones) dont seem to support it

Also, most Nintendo S-Video cables you can buy are designed for the NTSC market - as there never was an official PAL S-Video cable (would love to be told otherwise)

Apparently though they need a resistor adding on one of the lines (Chromo or Luma? Dont know for sure) to display the picture properly - the NTSC cables do not have this, so most people find the PAL N64 to have a washed out picture when using S-Video, but this is in fact just due to this missing resistor.

This difference is also true between Nintendo Composite cables aswell. The PAL Nintendo Composite cables have a resistor and a capacitor in the connector end which the NTSC cables do not - but most people use them interchangeably and dont really notice the difference - but the picture actually is darker/lighter if you use the wrong cable for the console. Also, cheapo third party Composite cables are almost always missing these resistors as they are designed for the NTSC market.

I actually made a thread all about this on Gamesx but didnt get that many reponses:-

          Hope that helps/makes sense!
