Connecting consoles to VGA monitors - quick Q

In PC terms, what resolution would the GC, DC and Xbox display at when connected to a monitor via VGA? 800X600? 1024x768? Higher? Lower?

Can you even work it out in these terms? I'm a bit lost

The thread recently about using a GC on a monitor suggested that the GC output at 640x480 and I would guess that the DC was probably the same?

Cheers for the info - it's all a lot more clear now

Sadly, it's also academic: it looked like I was going to get a lovely, dinky little flatscreen free from work (a site we handle was throwing it away ), but my boss has now gone and decided to attach it to our server.....

NTSC* consoles output 640 by 480 interlaced, unless they have a VGA mode or progressive scan, where its 640 by 480 interlaced.

          720p is 1280 * 720
1080i is 1920 * 1080, but your computer monitor MUST be able to display 1920x1600 for you to actually see the 1080i picture in full resolution.

I think DOA3 is the only game that supports 1080i, but I might be wrong.

You need to be careful that your monitor supports interlaced with the xbox, as the dash still boots interlaced (unless you patched it) so you might need to hook it up to a TV to see it.

*can't comment on a PAL console, never hooked one up to a monitor

The Dreamcast runs at 640 * 480 but I am not sure about the refresh rate. I think most of the time it is 60Hz but I can't be sure.

Cheers for the advice and things, everyone. It will definitely come in handy if I ever end up with a TFT.

Games look mostly awful through a TFT I'm afraid... even if it's a good model

I've noticed as well that the bigger the TFT the worse it gets.

                  true dat.

for the higher Xbox resolutions, there is a description of what the Xbox can do here:

                  http://www.xboxvga.com/ (under FAQ, 480p and 780p basically).

640x480 vga for DC, GCN and Xbox are all 60Hz (which is part of the vga 640x480 spec).
