    Colour Banding with PS3

Hi, I've noticed that my PS3 is displaying quite a bit of colour banding, specifically in dark areas on the screen (some of the sky in MGS4, for instance, or a dark blue background on the XMB). The PS3 is connected to my
Samsung LE32R87BD via HDMI cable. I've heard that colour banding happens alot on LCD TVs but this doesn't seem to happen with my DVD player. I've also read that there's not alot you can do to fix it outside of trying out more expensive HDMI cables but does anyone have any ideas how I might go about making it less noticeable?

(For those who aren't aware, the wikipedia on color banding explains it quite simply http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_banding )

have you tried changing your HDMI full range - set it to limited

I set the RGB Full Range (HDMI) option to limited, with no noticeable difference. The banding happens mainly in dark/blue areas, but can be seen pretty much everywhere to some extend. Has anyone else had this problem at all?

I was considering paying for a better HDMI cable but I really don't wanna pay £40 for one and find out it's exactly the same.

You could always buy a gain adjuster, although this may be more expensive than £40.
        Kept you waiting, huh?

In an attempt to try and not spend much more money on the whole PS3 HDTV setup that has already cost me so much, does anyone know if component cables display less color banding?

I wouldn't bother buying a more expensive HDMI cable, I don't see how that would help. Component will slightly 'blurrier' than HDMI, that may reduce the extent of the banding.

I think the difference you see between PS3 games and DVDs is because games are RGB where as DVD store colour as YCbCr(compressed colour).

I doubt it is something you can change, I imagine it is moreso the game than anything there are all sorts of things going on inside a game that may mean that the amount of colours possible is restricted. I highly doubt a different HDMI cable will make any difference.

You could try going through your picture options on theTV and turning off anything that isn't needed.

Yep, I'd suggest fiddling with the TV settings too
