Wii with HD telly - what to use?

I have a HD LCD 1080p television arriving on monday and I'm realising I'm totally unequipped for it. I have no idea what I need or what I'm doing. I have HDMI for PS3, the component that came with the 360 for that, just an old fashioned Sky Digital box so I guess I'm using scart for that, scart for dvd player but... what for my Wii?

Because it's a US Wii, I have just been using a really crappy composite (I often get that and component mixed up so correct me if I'm wrong with that). But what do I use for it now with the HD telly?

Component is what you want, can set the display to progressive then which means you won't get any interlace on the screen, advantage of that being it's something your TV doesn't then have to do itself (because LCD displays don't have interlace like old CRTs did). It'll also give you much stronger colours.

On my mates Sony BRAVIA 40" 1080p set, I actually noticed a lot of lag with the Wii (inc fluctuating frame rates) which switching to a component cable instantly resolved.

Cool, thanks for that. I'll get one of those then. I know the telly takes component and has two HDMI slots but would most tellies have room for just one set of component connections?

Yeah most LCDs just have one component input. Big ones might have two if you're lucky. I take it you have an older 360 that doesn't have HDMI output?

Yeah, I got the 360 just right before the HDMI thing came in.

You could always switch to VGA for your 360 and solve your connection issues.

^I switched to VGA for 360 when I got my first HDTV and haven't looked back.

Also, a DVD player through SCART on an LCD is going to look pretty terrible. I'd honestly suggest getting an upscaling multi-region player (if you have discs from more than one territory) or just use your PS3 / Xbox 360.

Yeah my DVDs are from all over. I didn't know there was such thing as a multi region upscaling DVD player. I don't suppose there are multi region Blu Ray players?

i bought my phillips hdmi upscaler from Richer sounds and they modded it for me so its now multi region

I've got my Wii going into component on the living room CRT and it looks the business

You can get multi-region upscaling DVD players with HDMI output even in bigger Tesco stores now for about £80. I just use my 360 though. I'd also recommend getting the VGA cable for your 360 BTW even if it's just so you don't need to swap component plugs all the time. But there are many, many more advantages to having one.
