    3do jap worth getting

im a massive fan of streetfighter and i was wondering is it worth getting a jap 3do and super streetfighter or is the panasonic version lame??also how much could i pick a jap console up for with a s-video lead, 6 button pad and streetfighter

It was certainly a great console IMO and a very good port if memory serves me the only thing is the pad IT'S ****, the only decent thing about it is you daisy chain the pads and plug player 2's pad into the top of player one's.
Good if your brother is battering you then for some reason he loses all control
Capcom released a proper six button round pad specifically for this game, it looked strange but it worked.
You could get an adaptor that allowed you to use Snes pads on it,my advice for what it's worth would be Get SSF 2X for matching service on DC arcade perfect and it rocks
Samurai Showdown was another great port on the 3do
I am one of the very few that paid ?400 when the 3do was released i got a free copy of Solar Eclipse i then paid ?40 each for Road Rash and Fifa Soccer(I was young and easily led, i sold my 486 DX33 pc to get it)

The 3DO was the first genuinely good c.d machine. I remember playing Crash&Burn on release and it really did blow people away. Total Eclipse was amazing as well, though it was a tough cookie for some people.

I bought one and then had the delights of Road Rash and Need for Speed. These games heralded the next gen revolution of 3D.

The machine had a great collection of games. Sadly once the PS and Saturn came out it died but while it lasted it was great.

Crash&Burn needs a modern update. What a great game, funny too.

Off World Interceptor: Crystal Dynamics really pushed the 3DO.

I loved my 3DO,.. some classics were on it, but not many.

Twisted The Game Show is still one of the "top five best ever" multiplayer games i have ever had thr pleasure of playing.
Crash n Burn and Total Eclipse were very nice as well,... i seem to remember Total Eclipse having a totally rockin soundtrack too.

The first Shockwave was lots of fun at the time, although i dont know how well/bad the 3d has aged in it. likewise with Road Rash,.. classic of its time.

the original Need for Speed on 3DO was very great for its time too.
cant forget Return Fire either, last RTS i actually enjoyed

3D games age pretty poorly though, ressurected Jumping Flash the other week and ooo boy it looked really old. Still one of the most charming and fun psx games of its time though

I remember paying 1400 .au dollars for my panasonic 3DO when it came out, had to play it in black and white for a few weeks too as i couldnt afford an ntsc/pal convertor...... ahh the memories : )

You're kidding right? Remember the PC Engine?

imho the 3DO was way overpriced, if moderately powerful, with a poor software lineup. unless you really like electronic arts.

There is quite a bit of Japanese 3DO software, most of it is okay but there is stuff like Puzzle Bobble, Super Real Mahjong, Sailor Moon, Crayon Shin Chan and quite a few 'adult' games...

The 3DO was all about a new frontier in gaming. It may not of had had major success in the mainstream but those that did buy it enjoyed the thrill of entering a new generation. During 94 it collected a few classic titltes and even the B grade games were quite good.

By 95 though it was over. Surely the shortest lifespan of a console ever, 2 years wasn`t enough but the PS and Saturn were better and they blew it away.

Anyone that critiscises the 3DO now, should remember back in 94 the machine really did have graphics and sound that impressed and excited peoples imaginations.

              I will fondly remember it.

The PCengine cdrom was fairly lame really. It didn`t turn the machine in to a 3D powerhouse. The engine was all about 2D and in that respect it is a classic machine.

I love 2D but the 3DO delivered a new flavour of gaming, great 3D games.

so you meant the first genuinely good 3D machine?

I remember at the time the ****ing ridiculous high price, and Road Rash vs Tempest 2000 was no contest for me.

It could have been good, but it was too little, too late, too expensive.

... and for me it had no must have titles.

By the way, I do own one

3DO have no region encoding. However because of the 50/60Hz issues some games won't work correctly. Also the Japanese machine has a Kanji ROM which although won't stop games working some games won't display any text (not sure if any won't work...).

The Jap 3DO machines aren't expensive but trying to get one could be tricky as no one likes the stupid machines...

The nice thing about Jap 3DO games is that they are in single or double CD cases, so no problems with storing them.

The 3DO is on my list of wanted consoles. As is the PC-FX.

As for it being the first great CD machine, I'm sure a lot of PC Engine, Mega CD and FM Towns Marty owners would disagree...

You are a funny guy! Imagine a Mega CD owner that actually liked the machine and the Marty, what a let-down that was when it came to software. Surely most p.c engine owners love the HuCards not the cd`s.

The 3DO was cool, thats how I will leave it. 8)
