Space flight sims

Hi there, not too up on PC gaming at the moment, and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend any space flight sims (ala x-wing, tie fighter, freespace). Basically any releases since freespace 2 probably. I'm not really bothered about Elite-style games, though feel free to suggest them, but ideally I want clear missions to do like in the games I've described, rather than just a big universe to fly around aimlessly in.

X3-the threat...a elite style game ...takes alot of tiMe to get into though

independance war 2...is a elite style game but i think its far more focused

Can be played like Elite but there are lots of missions given by people on space stations. You also have full control over your ship while Eve is more of a point and click.

Also has online multiplayer.

Thanks for the answers. Thought it was the case but I still can't quite believe noone makes games like tie fighter any more...such a shame

Theres a few projects based on the Freespace 2 source code that was released a few years ago, not sure if you already know about them though.

It's a bit old but my fave space shooty game ever was Starlancer

Made the same team who made the old Wing Commander Games (Chris & Erin Roberts) & it feels like the early good Wing Commander games (before the insistance on OTT FMV sequences)

Has some great missions, good ships & a really nice story.

Kinda upset I cant get it to work on either my XP or Vista systems though

Should be able to pick up really cheap now...if you can find it

Cheers again for the answers/ I tried one freespace 2 TC a while ago and it was OK, but not really up to the standard of a pro game. Didn't like starlancer in the brief go I had but might try it again, though I'm on vista so then again maybe not.
Still can't believe noone makes these at all any more...
