Had been hoping for a modular psu but having measured the existing one I think I may be limited to one that's been pre-wired.

All the 500w+ modular psu's I've look at seem to be somewhere between 5.9-6.3 inches in length. My existing one is only approx. 5.5" long. Whilst there is physically space for a longer one there are a couple of raised metal 'bumps' at the point where the existing PSU stops.....basically meaning a longer one would not sit properly.

The 650w OCZ I linked to previously should fit & I see they also do a 500w model with the same dimension. I reckon the 500w model would be ample for my needs tbh:

Whilst the 650w model has 3 x SATA connectors the 500w version only has 2 (and 4 x Molex) though. Before I go and order it I wondered if someone could clarify something?

I want to power 2 hdd's and 1 dvd drive. Do I need 3 x SATA or just 2 x SATA for the hdd's (hopefully) + 1 x Molex for the dvd drive?

Bit confused about the SATA & Molex thing really!!

    Thanks in advance.

      500w is fine.

Molex are those large (1 inch wide) 4 hole power plugs - you are using them in your HDDs now, the black plugs in your pics. SATA power is much smaller. You HDDs can probably do either (NOT BOTH!).

Your DVD may be SATA only, some are, but you're fine as your HDDs can do either.

My invoice is in the post

That's brill - thanks a million Matt. Hope I'll get a good discount on my bill as I must be a regular now?

I think I've just got to the point where I've learnt more jargon than my brain can handle and it's going into meltdown!.....SATA, 6 pin, 20+4 pin, modular, PCI-E, 4850, 8800 GTX blah blah blah

You'll do fine. Just take it easy, double check your purchases with your current spec, and be careful putting it all together.

And MAKE SURE the power cable is unplugged, and you hold in the power button 5 secs to discharge all PSU power before you open the PC up!!
