    PSP Service Tool Creator thing?

Has anyone bought one of these? I have no idea how it could work. Im thinking of getting one to create spare slim.

    Is it worth a purchase?

Not used one but I'm guess it just flashes the battery to convert it to a service battery. You can do the same thing using a modded 'fat' PSP.

When you are doing it the d.i.y. method you also need to create a 'magic' memory stick which includes the custom firmware you want to apply to the PSP that's being modded. I'm guessing you'd still need one regardless of how the battery was created.

You can also buy ready-made service batteries for approx. £6 inc:

I'd assume it does the same thing as the homebrew applications that make them. The only difference between a Tool/Pandora/Jigkick battery and a normal one is the serial number, because the PSP checks the battery when it boots. If the battery's serial is 0xFFFFFFFF it'll boot from the Memory Stick; if it's anything else it'll boot from the internal flash as normal. It's not a complicated process so there's no reason why a little box couldn't do it.

Datel already makes pre-made Tool batteries here, but it's £2 less for the thing that'll let you make one whenever you need one. Probably the most cost-effective way if you lack the means to make one yourself, which is easy but requires a homebrew-enabled PSP.
