    got it working and managed to save the file i needed and burnt it to disk going to format it now any way just to be sure it does not cause any more problems

      probably wasting your time formatting and reinstalling, but hey up to you. I would have rescued the file using a linux rescue cd, then I wouldn't have to repair the filesystem at all.
