    New setup advice

im selling my old gear and getting some new stuff. But I need to make sure im making a decent investment.

    I'm getting

    KDL52X3500 52" X Series Bravia TV
    SA-VE835ED 5.1 Speakers + 200W Sub
    TA-DA9000ES Amplifier

    and possibly this:
http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tv...ler-1080p.html for scaling Wii and PS2.

    my questions:

Im happy with my TV and Speakers, but the amp it sounds good enough, but does it do HD Audio? also that scaler, does any one know what its like?

    Cheers for the help.

I wouldn't go for that amp mate. It dates from 2004 and does not do HD audio.
There's not a single HDMI socket on it!

ah yes, i've noticed its possible to get Recievers that have a scalers built in. I think thats a nice feature and would like one for Wii/PS2 use. Recommendations?

I think you haven't done your research and are about to waste a WHOLE lot of money if you buy the kit you've mentioned.

        I'd recommend:

Sony KDL-52W4000 telly. Save yourself a load from the X series which isn't all that.

Yamaha RXV-2700 - If you can still get one. There are problems with the updated 3800 and most manufacturers haven't go the hang of HD audio over HDMI 1.3 as of yet. A top of the range ONKYO or the Denon 4308 might be a good second bet.

Bowers and Wilkins "Mini-Theatre" speakers and the awesome PV1 sub.

        Job done

If you are willing to spend that much on a TV you should be looking at Loewe or Planar. As you are buying surround kit the lack of speakers in the Planar displays wouldn't matter too much.

Well it does if you want to just watch TV without putting the surround system on

This Onkyo will upscale every input to 1080i and does the HD audio formats.

My experience with a 1 year old Loewe 32" HD LCD (belonging to my father in law) is that it's great for HD, but useless for SD like satellite. It hurt my eyes. I played will ALL the settings. Hopeless.

I only use prog scan and HD sources with my aging Loewe LCD so I'm not one to comment on how good it is with SD stuff. The Xbox looked OK via scart but I didn't use it with that TV for long.

You could save yourself a few quid/get an upgrade for the same cost by getting a Receiver that has upscaling built in.

There are a couple of Onkyo ones that scale to 1080p a couple of Sony ones and a couple of pioneer ones, ranging from £400-1000.

Also, that TV is a ****load of money for its size, you could get one of the brand new 9th Gen Pioneer Plasmas for a grand less.

I'm gonna be spending 5k or so in the next couple of months on a similar setup and I've been looking into it a lot from a games perspective.

I have Loewe for about 31 months and it is fanstatic for HDTV but annoying for SD especially with Wii, XBOX, PS2 and Sports on TV. (Especially ITV football)

Planning to replace it with 1080P 46" Panasonic Plasma with Freesat around November.
