    Gears of War install advice

    Hi guys,

I've got Gears of War for PC winging it's way to me so I had a quick shufty of various forums and was hit by barrage of bad feeling and confusion re. the install. From what I've read it sounds like a nightmare and I'm not even sure I'm going to risk putting the bloody disk in the machine. Does anyone have any advice about how to get the damn thing to install and run in a trouble-free manner, or indeed has the problem been fixed with recent patches? The Epic website is as unhelpful as ever...

By the way , I'm using Vista and dual-core Intel thingummies at 2.2 gigawotsits apiece with ATI Radeon something or other, which means - I know - that even if I get in running it's going to be be far from optimum.

I had major problems with it, if your my documents is located somewhere else it won't remember your video settings. It was a nightmare, how can a small annoyance like this exist in a major pc title, i had no help from anybody and i had to work it out myself. So make sure My documents is in its default location.

There is only one patch and it was released last year, there hasn't been any support on Epic's front.

Other than that, the install is fine. Apparently the game deletes saves, but i haven't had any of those problems as of yet.

Thanks Zero9X. This kind of faff reminds me why I got out of PC gaming in the first place. Not sure I can be arsed with it, may return unopened.

I've heard about the documents directory issue, bit sloppy on the part of the developers quite frankly. Why hardcode it to a specific path?

Personally I had no issues installing or running the game. It's just a shame that the game itself bored me to tears within half an hour, haven't even looked at it since.
