    HD-DVD Player

Looking to get a standalone hd-dvd player to use instead of the xbox 360 due to the noise if i can find some for sale.

Any recommendation and the sort of prices i should be looking to pay.

I'd be interested too, I missed out on the £60 ones that play.com and amazon had

I think I saw one in John Lewis for £99 though

I've got a Toshiba HD-XE1 and it's brilliant! It has got a Reon chip for upscaling DVDs and this does a great job and is comparable to top of the line DVD upscalers. Naturally HD DVDs look great on it and it has all the connections you'll ever need. From what I've read though, none of the UK HD DVD players are bad: HD-E1, HD-EP10, HD-EP30, HD-EP35, and the HD-XE1. Check out Toshiba's site for specs and AV Forums for lots of help.

I am in market for one with 1080P 24FPS support. I miss out the bargains as I was broke with a massive repair bills for my car.

I don't want to spend 200 quids on it.

Hopefully it will allow me to get a much better picture and colour on my TV compared to XBOX 360.

Most of Toshiba's range can do 1080p/24 with a firmware update. I would check AV Forums for in depth discussions about this topic and the various players. Much more knowledgeable people than me over there.

Search for "owner's thread", "firmware", "region free", "HD-XE1, etc". Searching by model number should get some good results.

I spotted Tesco do them in the past. Is it worth looking in several Tescos in case they might have one available in one of shop.
