    Dreamcast Dance/Rhythm games

Hello. I have a UK Dreamcast which I use a lot. I'd appreciate it if anyone could help me which the following queries.

-I have US Samba De Amigo and some 3rd Party Maracas. I play import games using a Utopia disk. Sometimes the Dreamacst has trouble recognizing the Maracas, although I can usually get it working in the end. Is this normal?

-I would like to get a dance game for the Dreamcast. I understand that DDR is available. What is the best version of DDR? is it import only? Is it playable on a UK Dreamcast?

    - Are there any other peripheral based Rhythm games for the DC? or any other rhythm games apart from Rez, + Space Channel 5 (1+2)?

    Thank you!

As far as I know DDR was only ever released in Japan. There's a Dance Mat for that and it came in two versions DDR 2nd Mix + DDR Club Mix. I'd go for 2nd Mix but both are quite cheap.

Japan-wise there's also Cool Cool Toon and I believe there's a Puyo Puyo one too if that jogs anyone's memory?

Edit: Had a think the Puyo Puyo one is called Puyo Puyo Da!

Oh and there's also Pop 'n' Music too which comes with it's own peripheral (Example), I've never played this one but it does look fun.

Theres DreamParaPara as well which is a chinese bootleg of the PS2 game ParaParadise, it's actually a decent quality game for a bootleg.
Yakumos got some picture over at his site.

Thanks guys. Do you know if the Japanese DDR and mat will work fine with a UK DC? Also are these dance games any good?

The mat will work fine. Are the games any good, well that's a bit of a sweeping question!

You have to be pretty fit and healthy if you want to get the most out of them... you'd always have to be unconcerned about looking like a tit. I lived for DDR when I was in my early-mid 20's.. but playing it now would be unthinkable. The thing is when you start trying to master DDR (or any Bemani game) you get a craving for more more more... more songs, more difficulty, more variations - on the PS this is variety is readily available for DDR, but the DC only has the two games to choose from. So it's kind of limited, but I guess it would be nice if you only plan on playing for the occasional laugh.

DDR 2nd mix also includes the uptempo Specials track 'Little Bitch' and the steps for it are mad!

Speaking of DDR, I forgot to mention theres a commercial home brew game called Feet of Fury, it's just as good as DDR, you can add your own tracks as well.

I've never tested this out but I heard that the maracas for Samba De Amigo can be used to play the first Virtua Tennis. Does anyone know if it's true?

Yeah I have to get one of these dance games then - I don't mind looking like a tit in my own house! My local arcade has a dance game, but I know I am not very fit at the moment, and I don't want to look bad.

You probably could use the Maracas to play Virtua Tennis. I once impressed a non-DC owning friend by playing it with back turned - I was using the VMU. He though I was using my ears to listen to how the players were moving!

I appreciate everyones help. Thank you

There are 4 pop'n Music DC games and a second Samba game that was only released in japan, version 2000.

I couldn't remember if the tambourine game was DC or PS. Just checked and it was PS. Very limited selection of extras for the DC.
