uk power supply on US wii issue

    Hi y'all

I just bought a cheap uk wii power supply off ebay for my US wii with the aim of doing away with the step down. However, it makes the screen all fuzzy and jumpy, which is most strange and not at all symptomatic of a power issue (or is it?).

Has anyone else heard of/experienced this? Does it sound faulty or tacky?

    Any help would be great

It could be that it isn't very well shielded or something and is interfering with the video.

possibly. it looks identical to the official one though, only lighter. I take it that would be a fault then?

I have had faulty/cheapo power supplies cause interference on screen before now (but with other consoles) so it is definitely possible

I'd recommend getting hold of an official PSU if you can. Nintendo UK does sell them separarately but I think they are £15-£20.

Had the same problem with a third party psu causing screen interference, I ended up throwing it away. I have two other third party ones that are fine though, seems to be pot luck.

I have two Panasonic lcd's, and using 3rd party uk psu's i got no picture whatsoever on either tv.

Then bought an official one and all is well. Weird how the power supply affected the picture, guess it wasn't giving the Wii enough juice to power it's video chip, maybe.

Is it a chinese one Howiee?

It was made in china but so was the official one. Although it did come from a seller in the UK (arrived next day).

Not getting enough juice to the wii certainly sounds like a possible cause - the picture was very half hearted. An official one seems like the way forward...

is that a reply about the gamecube psu

i want to take my US gamecube to work, but i cant be bothered about a stepdown and if the UK supply thing worked, it would be a godsend

                        It does yes jason.

A uk GC PSU will power an NTSC machine (same as N64 and Wii).

Yeah it was, I assumed the context made that clear. Sorry!

                              Oooh, thread from the dead!

FYI: You were looking for a SFC classic controller. There was one for sale in the trade forum. I couldn't work out who'd put a want in the wanted forum (was gonna PM them). Buster_broon let me know it was you and that you'd sated that particular desire.

Since this thread is back from the dead: can anyone tell me if a stepdown converter I use with my Jap/US (originally JAP) switched GameCube will be OK for the US Wii power brick? I have terrible interference, although I think it happens with my 360 even when my Wii is unplugged, but I'd like to rule out the possibility it is the 3rd party brick.

EDIT: The stepdown lists the following:

                              50Hz
                              300mA
                              220-110v
