PS3 minor bluetooth problem

I had a game of PES online yesterday and we both use our bluetooth headsets.

He could hear me thru his bluetooth headset whereas I couldn't hear him on my bluetooth headset, his voice and screams of GOOOOOOAL could only be heard thru the TV speaker.

How do I change it so I can hear him thru my bluetooth headset?

There are settings for audio input and output in the headset menu.
