    Sky Max Broadband

I'm thinking of taking the cheap option and getting this as part of a sky package, anybody had any experiences with it?

I have it, but i paid a tenner to have it unlimited.

No problems at all, never glitches, free router (which you can port forward), downloads fly down.

    Thumbs up really.

Thanks for that, it would be the unlimited one that I'm looking at, what kind of speeds do you get, they say it is upto 16meg.

For £10 broadband it's fine, but IMO it's not really good enough for gaming, mine went down reasonably often, and didn't get near the speed it should have.
        I'm much happier on BeThere

The last time i did a test i got 12.5 down. The time before 11.

Mine has never gone down. Guess it depends on your area.

It's for gaming that I want it, although I do think anything will be better than what I have now. I'd love to go with Bethere but they aren't availible in my area and Sky offer something other than upto 8 meg for my area.

i'm with AOL and i'm considering changing my provider

but at moneysupermarket.com nobody seems to get a decent write up

was interested in Tiscali, but not any more

Best in my area is BT which is clocking in at 768k although it appears Sky Max is getting 331 according to Speedtest which isn't too bad.

Oh, just checked Sky's site and they says it has 768k upload.
Problem solved, not many people must be using the Sky max on speedtest, as it has only been availible a couple of months.

I'm all moved into my new place. Went from Virgin 20mb, which USED to be fine, but is now horribly crippled within bransons gnarled old grasp.

Sky BB max does me fine. I get the same speed using usenet as I got before (newsdemon, about 14/15mb, but my upload rate thrashes virgin's. I normally hit about 120kbps.)

My computers just seem to connect to things faster. It's great.

Don't miss Virgin one bit. Hated that company since last year.

The pings on Sky were atrocious, but they've kinda sorted that out now. It's worth knowing that they still don't set up your line settings for optimal ping (max delay) as standard - you have to contact customer services to get them to fiddle with it.

Also, Sky are toying with the idea of traffic shaping/enforcing caps (because they don't at the mo).

I have had it since last Feb and have had no problems at all (that a router reboot didn't solve)

I am on the upto 16mb line and get 768k up at all times.

Can't complain for a tenner a month either

Yeah i pay the ?10 for max never have any problems.

The only issue is every 4 days or so my router needs a reboot
