PS3 Oblivion GOTY Edition - Vampire Bug Question

    Hi guys/gals,

I'm more than aware of the potentially game breaking bug that the PS3 version of Oblivion GOTY Edition has.......and also that they're refusing to comment on if they're ever gonna patch it!

Anyway, If I was to get a UK Standard PS3 Oblivion (The one without Shivering Isles), and played everything on that......would I then be able to use the GOTY edition to play the Shivering Isles section using my existing save game?

You should be able to use the same save file, yes. I can't go definitive on it, but Bethesda did it with Morrowind on the PC and Xbox aswell as Oblivion on the 360. They even let you use your same save when going from Oblivion GOTY back down to the normal version! So i'm pretty sure it would work fine.

I used to play the original PAL PS3 version of Oblivion and then upgraded to the GOTY version, and was very pleased (and relieved) to see that I could pick up where I left off using my saves from the original game, so yes, it will work

[EDIT] Sorry, I just realised that you're going from GOTY to normal Oblivion, not the other way round, so I'm not sure how it will work...but I imagine it should be ok. Why not try to rent out or borrow a copy of the original version first to see if it works?

I thought the non-GOTY version also had the bug?

I would have thought so the vampire quest happens in the original version.

Nope it doesn't happen in the original version on the PS3,

When people are infected and the bloodgrass doesn't accept the only option is to use the non GOTY edition to get the woman to accept it, then revert back to the GOTY edition however everything thats been found or done in the shivering isles is lost.

My question was that if I was to start again using the normal one, then do everything apart from the shivering isles......then when finished use the GOTY edition to do SI, would there be any kinda issues?

The PS3 GOTY edition is the only one that suffers it, much more info about it is found in the usual places (google)

I, like many fired an email off to the developers/publishers to get the following reply, which in all honesty is disgusting for what can easily be considered to be a very game breaking bug.

We are aware of this issue, and it has been entered into our database.
However, at this time, there are no planned updates at this stage for any
            version of Oblivion
EDIT : - Link for those interested, see section 4.

Never heard of this before (Oblivion is one of those games I always said I'd dedicate some time too but never find the motivation) but to hear that an issue like this hasn't been resolved is shocking.

If a fix has already been made available for PC/360 surely it can't be too difficult to transfer it the PS3 version? Would be nice if they did one final patch of the PS3 version to fix this and add in dual shock/trophy support.

My version of PS3 Oblivion is the regular edition. If I purchased the Shivering Isles expansion seperately (i.e. via PSN download or the seperate disc) would I be safe from this and would I be missing any content from the GOTY edition?

From what i'm led to believe (reading elsewhere), it will happen whether you have the GOTY edition installed, or the Shivering Isles Expansion.

The Original PS3 version already has the Knights Expansion and Patches etc so I don't think you'd be missing out on anything to be honest.

Shocking isn't the word, disgusting pretty much sums it up for me. There's loads of comments regarding it on Bethesda's own blog but they just seem to be ignoring the fact. They even email some people advising them the Rent the original version to get around it!

That's a pretty damn critical bug. I accidently caught Vampireism on the 360 version (was too long ago to remember how), and had to go on the annoying quest to cure myself of it. I remember fearing at the time that I might not be able to get rid of it. The fact that this nightmare scenario is a reality on the PS3 version is just incredible, and poor form by Bethesda. I guess they don't care about anything but Fallout 3 now.
