    Japanese TVs in the UK

Does anyone know if Japanese TVs work in the UK? My TV here has an ntsc to pal setting but I'm still unsure if it will be able pick up UK TV stations.

It's only a small TV but i don't want to have to purchase another TV just for my final year of uni.

Well, you probably won't be able to just plug it into an aerial, but you might be able to buy a cheap digital set-top box and then plug that into the TV through composite, s-video or component (if your TV has them), as long as it'll support a PAL 50Hz image.

A friend of mine took over a small cheapo 5 inch TV when studying in the UK for a year.. it picked up the channels through the aerial with no problem and the picture was fine, but it didn't support PAL colour system so only black and white.

btw - was just in Kanazawa the other day.. can't say I disagree with your description!

By the looks of the spec, you'll need a step-down transformer as well (although check the rating plate on the back of the TV, as it might say different).

It will turn on provided you hook it up to the UK socket with a stepdown transformer. It won't show you UK TV stations because of the differences in tuners and analog/digital TV standards, and if you connect an external tuner (like a Freeview box or VCR) it'll likely give you black and white video with the bottom chopped off.

So unless you plan on only using NTSC stuff with it, I'd sell up now and buy something when you get over here.

If you come over to UK for one year just buy a 2nd hand TV at cash converters and the like.
