Will Photoshop 5.5 install on Vista?

    Hello!

I've got a Windows Vista Home Basic laptop and I'm trying to install Photoshop 5.5 on it. Yeah, I know it's old but it's still awesome and it's cheaper than buying the latest version!

When I try installing it, I get as far as running the setup.exe, select "Agree" on Vista's User Account Control page, the installer splash page flashes up, disappears and then nothing happens.

I've tried it in safe mode and I've tried changing the compatibility tab to run in XP SP2 and Win2K but still nothing happens after the installer page.

    Any ideas?!

    Thanks squadron!

IIRC Adobe only certifies CS3 for Vista Home Premium and above, although I regularly see CS2 running on Vista machines without any problem.
However, speaking of 5.5, it probably tries to access old DLL/libraries that no longer exist or the OS doesn't grant the access level 5.5 needs to install.
PS 5.5 came out before both XP and 2k, I'm not that surprised if NT-based OSes refuse to install it.
BTW, if you find 5.5 awesome you should try The Gimp or Gimpshop, they are way beyond 5.5 capabilities and way cheaper.
If you need Adobe compatibility (PSD and so on), think about buying the CS3 version, at least it will be upgradeable when CS4 comes otu.

      Thanks, Briareos!

I was terrified to Google for "Gimpshop" as I feared I'd get a load of shops selling leather outfits with zip-up mouths...

I'll see if I can get that working, but it's a shame 5.5 won't run, it's still good stuff.

Thanks for the heads-up on Gimpshop.

      Thanks for your help!

I use 7.0 on Home Premium with no problem.

Photoshop 7 is good as well as it allow me to install it without needing to register online. (Hate software needing that)
