How do you reset PS2 parental PIN? SORTED

Tried to play a DVD on my chipped PS2 (not mine from new) for the 1st time today, and it's asking for a parental pin? Didn't even know it had a parental pin.

Thought I'd found the answer here: http://forums.megagames.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-2504.html

    "If you forget your password

Press SELECT button and enter the four digit number "7444" whenever the parental control display ask you for your password.the old password is deleted.

    notes:
*When you play DVD's which do not have the parental control function, playback cannot be limited on this player.
*If you do not set a password, you cannot change the settings for playback limitation.
*Depending on the DVD, you may be asked to change the parental control level while playing the disk.In this case, enter your password, then change the level. When you stop playing the DVD,the playback limitation level returns to the original setting.

but it doesn't seem to work....anything else I can try?

I did not even know it had a parental PIN either.

I have had a couple of new PS2 consoles, some chipped, and it has never asked me for a PIN when I tried to play a DVD.

      Sorted....found some better instructions:

Here's how to reset it if you get a used PS2, or if you forget what you set it to.
      1. Insert a movie that makes it ask you for the code. Usually an R rated one works.
      2. A blue screen will come up that says "Would you like to temporarily change the setting?". Select "Yes".
      3. It will then take you to another screen and ask you to enter your passcode. Instead of entering a code, hit the "Select" button. This should bring up another screen that says something along the lines of "Password Deletion."
      4. When prompted for the "Deletion Code", enter 7444. When it asks you to confirm it, then enter the code you want for the new one.
      5. Kick out the movie, then turn the system off and then on again to make sure the settings are saved correctly. If you forget to remove the disk before you turned it off, you have to do do it all over again to make it stick.

Surely there must be a way of setting your own password or changing it via the PS2s own Configuration Menus without having to do it when confronted by a parentally locked disc type. I'd have to check but as far as I can remember neither of my two PS2s (old style v.3 and v.7 I think) have any sort of parental lock.

Was it added with the introduction of the slimline PSTWo perhaps?

Think it's always been present with PS2's, but it only asks for the code if you set one up yourself initially (being a responsible parent and all that).
