    360 PSU's

Can an HDMI Elite be run from a launch models psu?

What did they change, i'm a little out of touch?

    Cheers.

Yes the 175w (Falcon/Opus) models will run on a 203w PSU.

The Xenon (launch) and Zephyr boards have a little plastic peg on the power connector that prevents the newer 175w power supplies being plugged in, but the 203w psu's connect fine to the peg-less Falcon/Opus boards.

Its fairly idiot proof and you can't make the wrong type of connection.

Does the PSU show an orange light when in standby and green when powered on?

It does on my launch, on the Elite it shows orange straight away.

has anyone tried it the other way around if you bought a psu and it happened to be a 175w psu and plugged it into a 203w 360 ?

as do 360s use 203w or they use less but have a larger psu just incase it draws more power ?

hmm, if it was red I'd say the fault is with the PSU, but I'm not so sure when it just stays orange.

Like I said in my first post, it can't be done.

According to MS, i think orange is a short.

It's had x-clamp replacement done, so i'm going to substitute some of the washers for nylon ones, see if that helps.

In other news, my 360 red ringed again last night.

                Time for the heatgun.

Play with the bolt pressures first if you can.

I know firsthand what a failed heatgunning can do to a 360 motherboard.

Really, did it go wrong for you?

Thing is, i had it running for a week, after doing Wilhelm's credit card trick, and all was fine.

He said it will go again, and i should do the heatgun.

Lo and behold, it's gone again. A cold solder under the gpu is the cause, so he said.

Yeah I did it once successfully and got another 28 days out of the console. But the second attempt I was overzealous and literally melted the GPU. I was pretty gutted.

Even worse was the fact that it was only a couple of weeks before the x-clamp replacement tricks started to emerge.

I'm of the opinion now that neither method works after failure occurs.
The X-clamp replacement has a chance of being long-lasting if it is done before failure, but after the fact it is just a matter of time before it fails again.
