    Improving 360 Media Extender Performance?

Wondered if there is anyway of improving the turd speeds I am getting using media extender through the 360. I'm using the wireless 360 adaptor and an O2 wireless box II on a fairly new laptop with Vista. I think both support b & g, but wonder whether I need 'a' in order to get a better connection. When testing with Windows I get a pitiful 2 bars of connection which is barely enough to stream a song through. I don't know a huge amount amount wireless networking but surely I should be able to get better than this?
    Cheer for any help

    Hi dude.
I can stream HD movies to the 360 over my wireless g so sounds like somethings not set up right or broken. How far away is the laptop? i.e. does it vary if you hold the laptop next to the box?

      Hey mate,
The laptop is about 2 1/2 metres from the 360, haven't tried to vary the distance, will do so now. I got the message when I set up that the reception/signal between the two was very poor for some bizarre reason. Anything I should be looking out for to try and improve the issue?
      EDIT:
Yeah have tried it next to my 360 and still having the same probs. I'm connecting through media centre as the 360 will not find my PC. I have make all the exceptions in the firewall and even turned it off and checked all the sharing boxes in WMP etc. and done everything correctly and it still will not recognise the P.C, and with regards to media centre crawls along.

Where's the wireless box (I'm not familiar with it - is it a router?). I presume that's near to the lappy and 360 as well?

Are you able to go into the settings of the wireless box II thingy and check it's set to "b+g"?

          Hi mate,
I'm away at the mo so can't check. It's a wireless router yeah. It's very close ot the laptop about half a foot. Annoyingly I can't seem to alter the b+g modes. As far as I know it's set to g only, although that is a guess. I can access the router via the 192. etc. address but can't seem to change the settings.
I've had a couple of other routers in the past and been able to change the settings on them no probs. It's worth noting that when I wire the laptop the box the streaming performace to the 360 increases quite considerably. I wonder in this case if that means it is the g standard?
Could it be worth disabling the uPnP on the router as this is on and I know can interfere with certain things?

g is what you want. It's the fast stuff.
I've got upnp enable on my router and it all works fine. :|

Has your lappy got wireless built in? If it does, try different combinations of cable from the router to the 360 + wireless to the lappy or cable from lappy to router and wireless to the 360. Test the speeds and see where the block is. If it's fine with cable between router and 360 with wireless lappy, then perhaps the 360 wireless adapter is knackered.

If you see what I mean. I.e. break it down piece by piece detective style. Good luck.

If all else fails, just use cables or borrow a decent router off someone else.

Have tired the laptop wired and the 360 wireless and the 360 wired and the laptop wireless and both give good speeds i.e. if either is wired then the speed between the two is fine. It is when both are running wirelessly there are problems, any idea what could be causing this as I'm guessing it is definately a problem with the wireless between the two?

Turn off internet connection sharing on the laptop? Perhaps the 360 is trying to connect to both the router and the laptop. Bit out of my depth here. Anyone else?

No worries mate, thanks for all the help so far. Any ideas how I turn off the net sharing on Vista?
                    Cheers again.
EDIT: Found the connections, also managed to access the config. on my router (02 don't make it easy), it's running in G, tried b+g and just b etc. and still no difference. Guess I'll just stick with the probs for now, it runs LIVE! perfectly so will have to put up with it until I decide to get an a supported router also so I can run the box on a seperate band. Cheers for the help.
