Opening .rar files on a Mac

    Hello,

I am trying to send someone a .rar file to their Mac but they don't know how to open it.

Does anyone know what program they could use to open it.

    Thank you.

They should just be able to double-click it to open. There's an app that's installed by default that should handle rars (although I can't remember the name of it at the moment).

Stuffit Expander supports RARs, as well as SIT files (which are relatively common on mac)

Keep Stuffit OFF you mac. It's a disgusting piece of crap that should have died with MacOS 9.

          MacPar is what you want:

Thanks for all the replies. I will tell the person about those programs.

My running order for trying .rars

              MacPAR deLuxe
              The Unarchiver
              UnrarX

The Unarchiver also works with .sit files (not .sitx) but anyone on a Mac who still uses Stuffit needs educating in a stern voice to just use the built in "Compress..." zip function!

I'm using macpar deluxe as well and find it to be the best all around of the ones I tried.

For me, the thing is that I need to create zip files which don't contain any if the mac specific files that are normally zipped up along with the target files.
The only one I have found to have a specific option for this is Stuffit so far.

I have to create cbz files and when I use another program to zip up images and rename the zip to cbz, then other people that are using Windows always seem to get an error about the file being corrupt.
Not sure if macpar has such an option.
