    PS3 power cable upgrade q

Would one of these http://www.russandrews.com/lookup/1/...cable-1530.htm be any good to my dad, who only uses his PS3 as a blu-ray player and mp3. jukebox?

Actually would I see an improvement too, using my PS3 for gaming as well as the above?
    Kept you waiting, huh?

Not likely. I've never bothered with mains cables. waste of money

you can get them surge protection ones which filter the mains power but not sure if it works or not

Don't bother purchasing a high-end mains cable unless you already have a mains conditioner of some sort, else it defeats the point quite a lot. Also, although fancy cables can help with high end A/V components and seperates, I'm not too sure if you'll see any benefit with one connected to a PS3 (especially as it uses an auto-switching PSU).

He means you can get power leads/adapters that have a surge protector on them so that, in the event of a power surge, the hardware powered by it won't be frazzled (Which is rare anyway, but worth it given the value I guess).

Not sure what benefits a more expensive power lead would have, personally.

I already have a surge protected 8-way Belkin plug socket that this cable would plug into. I just stumbled across it, and the reviews said it's good for entry-level equipment, which I'd say the PS3 was. If there is going to be no benefit I'll spend the £30 on sommat more fun.

I'd spend the money on something else unless they will do home trials.

This whole subject in the audiophile world is very contentious. Personally, I think that the quality of a maina cable can make a difference, but the difference between a 5 quid cbale with ferrite cores (like the Xbox 1 cable) and a 30 quid or 3000 quid cable will be negligible to the human eye.

I actually have Russ Andrews (well kimber, which he sells exclusively) speaker cable and interconnect, but I don't bother with the mains. Poor mains on a record player or cd player can cause distortion in the motor speed leading to an obvious sound distortion as its not regulated by a frequency but a voltage input requirement, it *might* make a difference playing BR discs but I very much doubt it so I wouldn't bother. If a machine has a decent power supply it should regulate whatevers coming in anyway, if it requires such a cable it has failed internally as such.

For audio equipment, a maybe, for dvd players, tv's etc.. HMM.. doubt it at all
