customs charges, help neded.*sorted please close*

hi, i preorded the simpsons season3 dvd from play.com. it arrived this morning, anyway the postman just left them on the frontdoor step and i only found them tonight when i went out.on the envelope there is a customs chare sticker which says i owe them ?8.37 for the dvd . it also says in bold writing that THE PACKAGE CANNOT BE DELIVERED UNTIL THE CHARGES ARE PAID. so where do i stand on this matter will i have to pay or can i just say i never recived the dvd with the postman just leaving it on the doorstep and not knocking.
    please help me out.
    thanks

the post office will have recorded the delivery attempt, and send it back to the supplier after a time.

one way or another, you will end up paying I suspect.

*edit* realise now I misunderstood your original post, didn't understand you actually had the DVDs.

I could be wrong but I remember reading in another thread about import fees that somebody else was in the same situation as you and basically they never got charged because the post office never bothered to collect it. I also read something similar in MVC (I think its called that, its the games trade magazine that games shops and the like get) and again they weren't charged.

I think you could be safe and also the fact that its play who never, ever send out stuff recorded unless its worth more than around ?40 so your whole "I never received it" arguement may work. Also the fact that it said "Do not deliver till paid" is another good omen that the post office can't be arsed collecting.

Cross your fingers that a letter isn't on its way from the post office.

You mean they just left the DVD? If so, you should be fine - you're meant to pay up before they hand it over; seeing as they've handed it over, that's their tough bananas.

I've had this happen a couple of times with no further comsequences, so I doubt you'll have a problem.

They expect you to pay them money for something they decided was worth so much they just left it on your doorstep for any thieving bint to nick?

Feck 'em! Ignore it until you get a letter, and when you do tell them to prove that you received it and if they lie and do prove it, tell them to compensate the entire cost of your package out of which you will pay them the ?8.37 they are asking you.

          Fascist wankers.

Postsy are not allowed to collect surchages. Are you sure that you might not have another package waiting down the delivery office?

It might be worth phoning them just to make sure

Other than that, I wouldnt worry about it. If that customs charge does relate to the dvds that where left, its the posty that is going to be in the ****, not you

Customs charges from Play.com sounds unusual, do you mean Play-asia.com?

I thought everything was posted from Guernsey so as you live in the UK, no charges would apply. I might be wrong but I've never been charged any customs fees fro anything I've ordered from Play.

The package is not suppose to be released to you without having paid the charges, and as you've not had to sign for it and you've already got it, well, you're in the clear. You can simply say, how have I got the package unless I've already paid?

I've been charged on occasion from play on the box sets, once the item was delivered with custom charges marks on it, all the other times I've had to go collect it from the post office. never heard about the one that got delivered.

You'd not get away with this if you were invoiced properly as you would be by a courier, but the PO don't track this stuff other than on those cards. It's the PO's mistake - let them pay it.

                  Regards
                  Marty
