XP Home Edition on an office LAN

Can't find how to integrate a laptop in a domain, i.e., not connecting ocasionally via workgroup, but a proper domain login.

Is it only possible with the Pro edition?

    Thanks

XP Home is butchered to buggery in the networking department. I can't think of how you can do it, but apparently when you do get it working it'll stop working after a while arbritarily.

Yep, thats one of the main differences between Home and Pro - only Pro is supposed to support Domains.

It's possible to use a laptop on a lan without logging into the domain provided that it can be given an IP via DHCP or some other means.

You can still access resources within the domain by using domanname\username as your username etc.

Fortunately, the machine doesn't need to access many resources, and as for the things that were done by a domain login, I've sorted them with a cmd file and some scheduled jobs.

It's only that after integrating 98, NT and XP Pro workstations in the domain for years, I feel more comfortable with the domain system.

            Thanks

XP Home is severely limited in a lot of ways. There is a microsoft white paper detailing all the differences, but it's very stripped down. If you have the opportunity, go for XP pro.

Aaaargh!! Something new. I've installed a wireless pcmcia in the laptop with XP home and it refuses to connect to the wireless base. Meanwhile, an older laptop with W98 connects quite happily.

Is that another feature missing from home edition?

                Thanks
