Video encoding advice

I've had a Dazzle 170 for a couple of years now, I've recorded quite a lot of stuff using the bundled Pinnacle Studio 10, but never got round to editing and encoding any of it.

It's recording to MPEG2 720x576 and filesizes are quite large so I've been meaning to find a good way to edit out the start and end of a recording and then convert it to Xvid.

Any experts here??

VirtualDub is the (legally free) program you need, real easy to use (just make sure you select Xvid in the video compression drop down).
