Connecting 360 to Live via laptop

Here's the sit rep:

Laptop running Windows Vista Business hooked up to university network.
360 plugged into a USB to 10/100Mbps ethernet adapter plugged into laptop.

What do I need to do to get on Live?

Please help. My brother Hounds in Neroimus need me STAT!

Having played around for a bit I have made some progress. However, I'm getting a failure on the DNS settings. Any ideas?
