plug a scanner in and the keyboard disconnects

Just got a new all singing scanner that i was going to put on a system i had, but each time i connect the scanner the keyboard disconnects making the system fail to boot . Any ideas?

One of two possibilities:

1: The Scanner is drawing too much power from the USB hub.

2: The scanner is eating all of the bandwidth

Try connecting them to different USB hubs on your PC. Put the Scanner on a front socket and the keyboard on the back.

aye moving it to the front has fixed it, so i suppose adding an external HDD isnt a good idea then

Try it without External hard drive to see if it work ok without. As you are not likely to use both at same time.

It's almost certainly a power issue. If you get a powered external drive you'll be fine; if it draws from USB you may have issues.
