Ps3 linux or XMb for videos?

    Hi guys

Is it worth me installing Linux to get a wider range of video codec compatibility or am I just fine with the XMB as it is?

Linux is a pain on the PS3. Very VERY little is optimised for teh cellz, and the PPC architecture is just generally less well-supported than x86.

The question is are you just fine with the XMB as it is? If you're ripping your own DVDs then all you need to do is make sure you find an appropriate program that rips them into PS3-compatible MP4. If you've got a lot of video files already then you might find it a pain to convert them all, especially considering that the process is lossy.

Could always just rip them to div/x, to be honest I find its fine for most of my videos.

I just point the web browsers home page to my /media/ directory on my webserver, and stream via HTTP.
