Gfx cards been out the loop for a while.

Just going to look at playing WAR, and my x800 struggles a wee bit. So been looking at some cheap cards.

ATI Radeon HD 3650 and the nVidia GeForce 9400GT 512MB PCI-E, both around the ?40 mark.

Which one is better, and how much more 'faster' is it over the x800?

Neither is a "gaming" card. Right now, I'd be looking at the 4850 512mb. It's around ?100 but kicks arse in the price range, it's more than those two you're looking at, but you can't even compare them

yes.. the gfx card that cost.. £100 quid, and the ones that cost £400 and look like a stealth bomber, how much difference really is there.. Or do you need a massive hi res monitor (even more cash) to make the most of it..

I guess it just progress really.

the 4850 currently offers the best bang:buck ratio. Once you get to the high end with computer hardware the increase in performance starts getting less and less and the price increase gets more and more.

Also the high end stuff eats power and can add up to 100W to power consumption (and remember, that ends up as pure heat)

Crysis will still tax every card on the market at high settings but it's worth noting the game is particularly intensive and there are no games in development that look set to be demanding (id's new engine looks great but the company is incredibly skill at producing efficient, scalable engines so ti probably won't be more taxing than crysis).

Given how many PC games are being developed for the 360 and ps3 as well, I wouldn't expect games to advance much for at least a couple of years
