    80gb PS3 - Ps2 software emulation any good??

    Hi ladies and gents,
Wondered how decent the 80gb (older u.s machine) is with regards to PS2 Backwards compatibilty?
I know it uses software emu rather than the actual PS2 hardwre but have heard mixed reports about games. I only want to play a handful of titles such as Katamari, SOTC, Tekken 5 and a couple more. The PS3 site seems to reckon they run fine but understand that some games that 'run fine' stutter and bugger up all over the show.
    Cheers for any help

Well, it's the same emu as the UK 60 gig. SOTC works fine on mine, can't comment on the others but you caould always 'upgrade' to Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection on the ps3 ;-)

It's not an ideal solution at all but it's worth having a look at the Sony's compatibility page to find out how certain games hold up on an 80GB model. There used to be a complete list of how each game worked but they just seem to have that searchable database now.

One of the problems is that they don't announce which specific PS2 games have been added to that list or improved with firmware updates like they used to as it's just not a priority for them any more.

They compatibility list usually gives a fair idea of how individual games will work.
