PSP memory stick question

Anyone know how bug a memory stick can be used with the PSP (Slim and Light, if that makes a difference)? Can an 8GB be used?

I use 8GB with my Slim & Lite with no issues.

The 8gb & 16gb both have a note on the packaging saying it works with the PSP, but confusingly on the 16gb it says it must always be the latest firmware for it to work. Not sure what will happen if it's not... your card gets locked out? I haven't bought one cos I'm wary about that.

The 8gb has a note saying it will only work at a certain firmware and above (3.xx) so not sure how that will work for custom firmwares (if you use such a thing)
